Downtown-the heart of the city

I love downtown, there’s a reason when we looked for a brick and mortar we chose to be downtown, to invest in and to be a part of its resurgence.  We’ve watched downtown blossom as the breweries went from a vision to a reality.  We’re a stone’s throw from the Cheese Lady and neighbors with Morat’s new bakery location, not to mention a quick walk to the farmers market with locally sourced produce and the Fish Monger’s Wife.  One of the most exciting plans we have for the restaurant is a weekend menu with everything sourced within a few blocks.

Not only is downtown Muskegon home to wonderful food, craft beer and craft cocktails but also a history like nowhere else.  As a little girl I danced on the Frauenthal Theater’s stage.  A theater that’s been open for almost 90 years.  If you haven’t seen a production there you are missing an experience.  I remember looking at microfiche in the basement of the Hackley Library and I still get chills walking on the glass floor thinking about the fact that it’s been open since the 1800’s.  We have an incredible Art Museum where Friday evening we enjoyed Art on Tap and Uncorked with friends.  The event is one of our favorites every year.  You can sample local craft beer and wine while enjoying beautiful works of art.  Local restaurants passed appetizers and hundreds of people were enjoying downtown.

Any given day you are bound to find us in Pigeon Hill, at the farmers market, playing with the kids at heritage landing, doing Sunday sunset yoga on the LST, running the streets (literally with Run Muskegon) or sampling at the Cheese Lady’s shop.  As a kitchen is often referred to as the heart of the house, when looking for a home for Nipote’s, we knew we needed to be in the heart of the city, where the streets have a pulse, the buildings have soul and the vibe is electric.  There’s a renewal downtown, one that celebrates everything that is coming while paying homage to everything that’s been.  We are downtown and we can’t imagine having Nipote’s anywhere else...unless it were in Italy!

one of my favorite collections at the museum is when they feature our young local artists!  Morgan and I took a second to pose with her daughter Vivian’s piece, “It’s a Jungle.”
